This piece depicts a diverse band of DC teenagers marching in Revolutionary War-inspired uniforms redesigned to honor DC statehood. Their white jackets carry the red bars and stars of the DC flag, while their light blue waist sashes reference the sash worn by General George Washington, a historical symbol of leadership and responsibility reclaimed here for a new generation. The blue also offers a subtle nod to Eastern Senior High School’s Blue and White Marching Machine, “The Pride of Capitol Hill,” just blocks from the mural.
